7th Osaka University Leaders Forum (Friday, February 8, 2019)

On Friday, February 8, the Osaka University Leaders Forum was held at Osaka University Hall on the Toyonaka Campus, with some 130 individuals in attendance.

During the forum, President NISHIO Shojiro talked about how things were going at Osaka University, and SUENOBU Noriko (1991 graduate, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences/Corporate Officer in charge of Group Research and Pharmaceutical Center, Pola Orbis Holdings Inc.) gave a speech entitled "The Bravery to Take the First Step - Being True to Myself."

In the social gathering following the Leaders Forum began with a toast from FURUKAWA Minoru (1966 graduate, School of Economics/Senior Corporate Adviser, Hitachi Zosen Corporation), alumni of all ages, fields, and schools enjoyed friendly exchange with one another.

6th Osaka University Leaders Forum (Tuesday, February 6, 2018)

On Tuesday, February 6, the Osaka University Leaders Forum was held at Gakushi-Kaikan in Tokyo with some 160 individuals in attendance, surpassing last year's total.

This forum is held each year in order for graduates of Osaka University and Osaka University of Foreign Studies currently active on the front lines of their respective fields to build networks and deepen bonds with their alma mater. This year marked the 6th holding of the Leaders Forum.

The forum began with a greeting from President NISHIO Shojiro in which he talked about recent events at Osaka University, which was followed by a talk by IZUTANI Yachiyo (Director, Announcer's Office, NHK; 1981 graduate, School of Human Sciences).

At the social gathering, MAKABE Reiko (2003 graduate, School of Dentistry), who runs a dental clinic in Tokyo, gave a toast, and alumni of all ages, fields, and schools enjoyed friendly exchange with one another.

5th Osaka University Leaders Forum (Tuesday, February 14, 2017)

On Tuesday, February 14, the Osaka University Leaders Forum was held at Gakushi-Kaikan in Tokyo with more than 150 individuals in attendance.

The forum began with a greeting from President NISHIO Shojiro in which he talked about recent events at Osaka University. This greeting was followed by an introduction to the university's endeavors in industry-university collaboration by Executive Vice President YOSHIKAWA Hideki.

Later, Prof. YANAGIDA Toshio (Director, Center for Information and Neural Networks/Specially Appointed Professor, Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences) delivered a lecture entitled "Unraveling the Brain and AI through Fluctuations," in which he talked about the latest in research on the working of the human brain and AI lead by fluctuations, all while including a bit of humor and speaking in a manner that was easy to understand.

A toast from SAKAMOTO Hiroko (1981 graduate, School of Letters) kicked off the social event, in which attendees deepened friendships beyond generations and fields, making for an energetic event.

4th Osaka University Leaders Forum (Tuesday, February 16, 2016)

On Tuesday, February 16, the Osaka University Leaders Forum was held at Osaka University Hall on the Toyonaka Campus, with some 120 individuals in attendance.

The 4th Annual Leaders Forum began with President NISHIO Shojiro outlining the Osaka University Vision 2021, as well as recent events at the university. Afterwards, Executive Vice President YOSHIKAWA Hideki (Industry-University Collaboration and Hospital Management) gave a speech on "Learning Risk Management from Medical Accidents." Executive Vice President Yoshikawa spoke about frameworks in which accidents and failures occur and the role of leaders in these situations through a wide variety of case examples.

A toast by INAGAKI Takashi (Lawyer; 1954 Graduate of the School of Law) kicked off the social event, in which attendees deepened friendships beyond generations. Presentations by two teams of current students involved in environmental conservation activities and startup businesses received a lively round of applause. The warm atmosphere of the gathering was filled with a kind of energy that only Osaka University graduates could provide.
