[Nobel Diary Day 7] The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony Held
The Nobel Prize award ceremony took place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. Distinguished Honorary Professor Shimon Sakaguchi, a Physiology or Medicine laureate, was finally presented with the Nobel Prize medal and diploma.
In the morning, Professor Sakaguchi visited the Stockholm Concert Hall, the venue for the award ceremony, and participated in the rehearsal. With the moment of glory just hours away, he quietly awaited the main event.
For lunch, he enjoyed Swedish cuisine with Nobel Attaché Anna and others.
Afterwards, he prepared for the ceremony. Though seeming slightly uneasy in the formal tailcoat he rarely wears, he appeared at ease and assured that everything would work out if he carried out the rehearsed performance.
At 4:00 PM, the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony solemnly commenced, with official guests including President Atsushi Kumanogoh in attendance. The award winners stepped onto the stage, amidst the gaze of members of the Swedish Royal Family, international dignitaries, and the family and associates who have supported the laureates to this day.
And then, the moment finally came.
When his name was called, Professor Sakaguchi stepped forward to the center of the stage with a radiant expression. He proceeded up to King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, bowed deeply, and received the golden medal and diploma along with the words of congratulations from the king.
At 7:00 PM, with the lingering excitement of the award ceremony, the venue shifted to Stockholm City Hall for the Nobel Banquet, renowned as the world's most lavish. Amidst the luxurious cuisine and music, Professor Sakaguchi once again shared the joy of his award.
Not only the official guests attending the award ceremony, but also Professor Sakaguchi's relatives and past and present laboratory members gathered at a hotel in Stockholm and watched the event via television broadcast and live streaming. Professor Sakaguchi seemed very concerned about whether everyone who gathered for the Nobel Week was enjoying themselves, but everyone had a wonderful time.
It was a day when Professor Shimon Sakaguchi's name was deeply etched into the history of human science and into the history of the University of Osaka.
