[Nobel Diary Day 6] A Ceremony was Held at the Japanese Embassy
Distinguished Honorary Professor Shimon Sakaguchi attended a ceremony hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Sweden ahead of Wednesday's award ceremony, and received many warm congratulations.
After having a light lunch at the hotel, Professor Sakaguchi visited the residence of the Japanese ambassador to Sweden along with Kyoto University Distinguished Professor Susumu Kitagawa, a Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Hideaki Mizukoshi delivered his heartfelt congratulations, expressing his hope for the further development of academic cooperation between Japan and Sweden, and Astrid Söderbergh Widding, Chair of the Board of the Nobel Foundation, gave a speech praising the achievements of both laureates.
Afterwards, another ceremony was held in which both laureates signed the underside of the chair at the residence, replicating the official event at the Nobel Prize Museum.
Many guests, including those from Japan, gathered to the residence to celebrate the awards of both professors in a grand manner. In a harmonious atmosphere, Professor Sakaguchi looked relaxed as he rekindled old friendships.
In the evening, they moved to the Nordic Museum on the island of Djurgården to attend the reception co-hosted by the Nobel Foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. A splendid party was held in a magnificent Renaissance-style building, bringing together all the laureates. Professor Sakaguchi enjoyed the interaction transcending the boundaries of science and culture.
Everyone from Japan and all over the world blessed Professor Sakaguchi’s great achievement. Tomorrow will be the award ceremony and his moment of all the glory.
