[Nobel Diary Day 5] Nobel Prize Concert Held

With the award ceremony just two days away, Distinguished Honorary Professor Shimon Sakaguchi spent the day filled with festive activities, including a fitting for the formal attire to be worn at the award ceremony and attending the traditional Nobel Prize Concert.

In the morning, Professor Sakaguchi and his wife took the Nobel Car to visit Hans Allde, a tailor in Stockholm, to have a tailcoat fitted for the award ceremony and banquet.

Sliding into the pure white shirt and tailcoat, Professor Sakaguchi meticulously checked the fit and size in front of the mirror. He looked slightly nervous in the tailcoat, an outfit he rarely has occasion to wear.

For lunch, taken by Nobel Attaché Anna, Professor Sakaguchi and his wife purchased sandwiches at a local supermarket. They also kindly agreed to a photo with the person who made their sandwiches.

In the evening, they headed to the Stockholm Concert Hall, the venue for the award ceremony. Before the concert, they attended a reception held at the Grünewald Hall.

Then, the Nobel Prize Concert commenced at the Stockholm Concert Hall.

The concert, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, featured Spanish violinist María Dueñas performing with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Beautiful melodies reverberated throughout the entire majestic hall. In addition to Professor Sakaguchi and his wife, official guests and his lab members were also in attendance. Although Professor Sakaguchi and his group were seated apart from the official guests, they all enjoyed the performance, waving to each other before the concert began.
