Regarding Support for Students and Researchers of Ukraine

In response to the crisis in Ukraine, Osaka University has decided to accept students and researchers facing difficulty in continuing their studies and research. The university will offer educational and research opportunities including support in daily life.

It is our hope that this initiative can support students and researchers facing hardship.

Outline of Support for Students and Researchers of Ukraine

1. Eligible Individuals

Individuals who fall under any of the following (as a general rule, those with Ukrainian nationality)

*Please note that there are cases in which we may not be able to accept you depending on the research field or other conditions.

  • Students who have previously been enrolled at Osaka University (undergraduates, graduates, research students, exchange students, MEXT Japanese studies students, MEXT undergraduate student program [Japanese preparatory program] students, etc.)
  • Students who are currently enrolled at partner universities, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (regardless of their department or school)
  • Researchers associated with Osaka University (such as those who have obtained a degree at Osaka University)

2. Acceptance period

Until March 31, 2023 (*The acceptance period has ended.)

3. Status at Osaka University

Students will be accepted as a non-regular student at the Center for Japanese Language and Culture or the Center for International Education and Exchange and take courses to learn Japanese language and culture. You may be able to take undergraduate and graduate school subjects if you are approved by the school/graduate school.

Researchers will be accepted as a visiting researcher (unpaid).

4. Support

We will provide the following support:

  • Tuition fee exemption (Students only)
  • Support for housing fees (University dormitory, Housing provided by local governments and an apartment)
  • Support for living expenses
  • Offer tutors to help your daily life
  • Support for the procedures and travel expenses required for traveling to Japan

5. Acceptance procedure

Please send the following information to the contact email address. We will inform you of the necessary procedures.

  1. Your Current Status: student or researcher
  2. Current university
  3. Period and status of enrollment at Osaka University (for those currently enrolled at a non-partner university)
  4. Japanese and English proficiency (Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor)
