Supporting female researchers at OU
On-campus Nurseries
Osaka University operates 3 nurseries on its Suita and Toyonaka campuses. In addition to these nurseries, OU has temporary childcare facilities during times when other nurseries are unavailable to cover their childcare needs (such as early morning, in the evenings, and on weekends and holidays) as well as a nursery room for children with and recovering from illness.
Childcare Support Program
To help female researchers juggling work and childcare, OU provides services that fulfill the needs and desires of female researchers, such as asking babysitters to drop off and pick up their children from daycare and receiving pregnancy checkups at Osaka University Hospital.
Research Support Systems
For female researchers struggling to find time for research due to childbirth, childcare, nursing care, and other family responsibilities, OU implements the Research Support Staff System, which employs postgrads and students as "research assistants", and the Plus ONE System (Short-Term Education and Research Support), a funded program that provides funding for part-time employment for researchers who need short-term, intensive support.
