The University of Osaka Hosts the 4th Japan–Vietnam University Presidents’ Conference

The 4th Japan–Vietnam University Presidents’ Conference was held on October 8 and 9, 2026, at UOsaka’s Suita campus. UOsaka and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) co-hosted the conference in cooperation with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), along with the support of Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Osaka Prefecture, the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Kansai Economic Federation. Approximately 250 participants attended, representing 30 Japanese universities, 36 Vietnamese universities, and multiple government agencies and other organizations from both countries.

Through keynote speeches and discussions, participants examined potential avenues for strengthening university-to-university and university–industry–government collaboration aimed at fostering highly skilled talent and advancing international joint research. Discussions also focused on strategies for expanding bilateral partnership networks. Furthermore, at luncheon seminars hosted by sponsoring companies and information sessions organized by relevant institutions, participating organizations showcased their initiatives and case studies of university–industry–government collaboration.

This conference provided a valuable opportunity for university leaders and representatives responsible for international collaboration from Japan and Vietnam to come together and share and reflect on the outcomes of their diverse partnerships to date. It also enabled participants to explore opportunities for university-to-university and university–industry–government collaboration aimed at developing highly skilled talent and advancing international joint research, while significantly expanding partnership networks between the two countries.
It is hoped that this conference will serve as a catalyst for further strengthening university-to-university and university–industry–government collaboration between Japan and Vietnam.
