UOsaka Special Seminar & CAMaD Seminar Held

The Center for Advanced Modality Drug Delivery System (CAMaD), the university's vaccine development center, has held CAMaD seminars with with a view to human resource development and collection of the latest information on vaccine development for infectious diseases. On April 24, as an extended part of the CAMaD seminar, the University of Osaka and CAMaD hosted a UOsaka Special Seminar and CAMaD Seminar with Chairman Hiroaki Ueno from the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) as the invited lecturer.

In his opening remarks, our president, Atsushi Kumanogoh, stated, "The University of Osaka continues to contribute to the innovation of pharmaceutical development through basic research, including infectious disease vaccines. We hope that this seminar will serve as an opportunity for further promoting these efforts and enhancing collaboration between industry, academia, and government.” Next, Chairman Ueno gave a lecture titled "Towards Strengthening Japan’s Drug Discovery Capability - Expectations for Academia," in which he spoke about JPMA's efforts to review and improve the current situation of Japan's drug discovery capabilities and the promotion of practical application of pharmaceuticals and vaccines through industry-academia collaboration. Lastly, as a closing address, Director Akira Shizuo expressed his gratitude for the lecture.

Faculty, staff, students, and individuals from related businesses filled the whole capacity of the venue, the main hall of the UOsaka and Nippon Foundation Center for Infectious Disease Education and Research, which was just completed in March.

There were also many people in attendance from AMED SCARDA and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as well as those from vaccine development centers nationwide and related businesses, indicating a high level of interest in the subject area.

The seminar was preceded by a courtesy visit to the university president and was followed by a socializing research discussion and a subsequent tour of the new building. In a friendly atmosphere, the seminar provided a valuable opportunity to promote collaboration between the University of Osaka and JPMA.
