Osaka University celebrates the anniversary of its founding on May 1

May 1 marks the anniversary of the founding of Osaka University.

On this day, 92 years ago, in 1931, Osaka University was born in the Nakanoshima district of Osaka City as Osaka Imperial University with two schools: Science and Medicine.

This year, the university held the Icho Festival on April 30 and May 1 without COVID-19 restrictions for the first time in 4 years in order to celebrate the day of its founding, welcome new students, and form friendships among OU community members as well as bonds with local communities.

We’d like to thank the many individuals who joined us for the festival. We hope you were able to experience Osaka University through various events and laboratory tours.

In addition, this April, the Osaka University Nakanoshima Center, which opened in April 2004 on Nakanoshima (the birthplace of Osaka University), had its grand reopening after a renovation to improve its function as a project to commemorate Osaka University’s 90th and Osaka University of Foreign Studies’ 100th anniversary. Based on the concept of creating a hub for globally connecting and disseminating four domains of knowledge (culture, art, science, and technology) through society-university co-creation, art, and industry-university co-creation, the newly-renovated Nakanoshima Center will serve as a place for co-creation where we can work with you.

Osaka University, which has developed with society through education and research activity under its motto of “Live Locally, Grow Globally,” will continue to move forward together with all of you as a university that drives social transformation.
