Honorary degree conferred to Dr. Raymond L. Rodriguez of UC Davis
Osaka University conferred an honorary degree to Dr. Raymond L. Rodriguez of The University of California, Davis (UC Davis) on June 16, 2021 to recognize his contribution to building the relationship between UC Davis and OU, promoting their educational exchange, and expanding educational and research activity at OU.
The conferment ceremony for this degree, which was greatly postponed due to the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic, was finally held on March 3, 2023 during his visit to OU.
Dr. Rodriguez has contributed to the development of academic exchange between the two universities for more than 30 years since he was appointed as a visiting faculty member at OU’s Graduate School of Engineering in 1988.
With intent to develop talent to play an active role on the world stage, he has visited OU several times, almost every year since 2011, to prompt students and early-career faculty members at OU to develop global literacy. He also served as a go-between to conclude a strategic partnership agreement in January 2021 for the purpose of furthering collaboration between UC Davis and OU as one of OU’s Global Knowledge Partners.
