[May 3rd (Fri.)] Osaka University Homecoming Day 2019!

2019-5-3 (Fri) 10:00 -

Homecoming Day is an event for everyone in the "OU Family," including students, alumni, and staff from Osaka University and Osaka University of Foreign studies, to come together and deepen their friendships.

This year, for the 14th Homecoming Day, we'll welcome Tomoko Lumpkin, a renowned conference interpreter known for her work in Japan-U.S. Summit Meetings.

Ms. Lumpkin will cover topics such as "what kind of profession is conference interpretation/simultaneous interpretation?" and "how did you improve your English?" so those who wish to become interpreters in the future or just have an interest in interpretation are encouraged to attend!

The Icho Festival will also be taking place on Homecoming Day, so please enjoy an exciting day on campus!

[Lecturer] Tomoko Lumpkin

After graduating from the English Department at Osaka University of Foreign Studies in 1974, Ms. Lumpkin obtained her master's degree at the University of Hawaii.

She has served as an interpreter for the U.S. Department of State, and currently works as a conference interpreter for international conferences (APEC, UN General Assembly, etc.), the national government, and international relations for private corporations.

Ms. Lumpkin was an interpreter for the meeting between President Obama and the Japanese Emperor in April 2014 and for the Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting between President Obama and Prime Minister Abe in April 2015.

Applications are no longer being accepted. However, applications will be accepted at the door, so those wishing to attend should come to the venue on the day of the event.

• A Hands-on Lego® Workshop will also be held on the day of the event. For more details, click here.

*To graduates celebrating the 5th anniversary of their graduation from OU

At this year's homecoming, we would like to extend a special invitation to those individuals who are in their 5th year since graduating from Osaka University (those who graduated between April 2013 and March 2014). Attendance for these individuals will be 1,000 yen, half the usual fee, so we encourage you to invite your classmates and relive the memories of your university days.
