Student/Faculty and Staff Digital ID Cards

On January 29, 2025, Osaka University began issuing digital ID cards to all the students and faculty staff members.
The digital ID card will be the university’s official ID card provided as a new function of Osaka University’s official App called “My Handai App”.
Please note that the existing paper/plastic ID cards will continue to be issued until digital ID cards become generally accepted in society.

Notes to students, faculty and staff of Osaka University

- The digital ID card is an ID card that serves as proof of your university enrollment at the university.

- The digital ID card contains important personal information. In case your smartphone is lost or stolen, please report it to the police immediately. It is possible to delete the information remotely; we strongly recommend that you delete the data on your smartphone to prevent abuse of personal information.

- To prevent unauthorized use of your digital ID card, do not lend your smartphone to others or share your password.

- Please carry with you the existing ID card at all times, as you may be required to present it on and off university campus.

- Please notify your department immediately when there are any changes to the information on your ID card.

- To sreengthen security and enhance functionality, please make sure to always use the latest version of the My Handai App.

For those who have been presented with a digital ID card

- The digital ID card available on the university’s “My Handai App” will have the same validity as the existing physical ID card.
- Those indicated as non-degree students are not students enrolled in a regular course with the goal of obtaining a degree.

- Only digital cards that meet all the following criteria are considered authentic, and screenshots will not be recognized as valid ID proof.
・ The ID holder’s face appears in the photo.
・The background pattern is continuously moving in the upper right direction.
・The screen flashes every five seconds, and glitters appear on the left and right sides of the screen.
・The year, month, date, hour, minute, and second are displayed on the bottom left of the digital ID card.

- The digital ID card is closely linked to the system that manages enrolled students’ data, and strict user management is in place; therefore, only OU students and faculty staff members can have the digital ID displayed on their smartphone screens.

- The digital ID card is protected against forgery and identity theft using advanced security technology, so it can be used safely.
- If you are presented with a digital ID card by a student or a faculty staff member, please confirm that the person presenting it is the same person in question by checking the face in the photo and the information on the card before proceeding with all sorts of procedures.
