Cancellation of classes due to weather warnings, disasters, and suspension of public transportation

In the event of a disaster or other emergency, information regarding class cancellations or resumption, campus bus operations, temporary evacuation sites, and safety confirmation procedures will be posted through this account.

1. Cancellation of classes after issuance of weather warnings
If a "Storm Warning" [boufuu-keihou]/"Emergency Warning" [tokubetsu-keihou]/ "Level 4: Urgent Warning"/"Level 5 : Emergency Warning" is issued for the region including Toyonaka, Suita, Ibaraki, and Minoh cities, classes will be cancelled.
If either of these warnings are issued during a class, classes will be cancelled beginning with the next class.
*For “Emergency Warnings,” all types of warnings are covered, including those for storms, high waves, heavy snow, and snowstorms.
For alerts corresponding to Alert Level 4 and Alert Level 5, all warning categories are covered without limitation, including floods, heavy rain, landslides, and storm surges.

2. Cancellation of classes due to transportation interruptions
If any of the public transportation services listed below on a student's commuting route are suspended due to a disaster, including a partial suspension of a route, classes conducted on the relevant campus shall be canceled.

However, classes will not be canceled in the event of temporary service disruptions caused by accidents or other similar incidents.
3. Resumption of classes after cancellation for weather warning or suspension of public transport services
The handling of classes following the lifting of a weather warning or the resumption of public transportation services that resulted in class cancellation under "1. Cancellation of classes after issuance of weather warnings" above shall be as follows.

Note 1: Students in the United Graduate School of Child Development will be contacted by email.
Note 2: Check the official information issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency, local governments, public transportation operators, or other relevant public authorities to confirm whether weather warning has been canceled or suspension of public transportation services have been resolved.
4. Cancellation of classes due to earthquake
If an earthquake with a seismic intensity (shindo) of 5+ or higher occurs in Toyonaka, Suita, Ibaraki, and/or Minoh cities, classes will be canceled.
Also, if the earthquake occurred after 5:15 p.m., all classes scheduled for the following day shall also be cancelled.
If the earthquake occurs outside the above-mentioned area or its intensity is below 5+, we shall respond according to the operating status of public transportation services, and the provisions set forth in "2. Cancellation of classes due to transportation interruptions" above shall apply.
5. Evacuation instruction or emergency safety measures due to disaster
If an evacuation order or emergency safety measure (“evacuation order, etc.”) is issued in any area of Toyonaka, Suita, Ibaraki, or Minoh City, departments located in the affected area (“evacuation area”) may suspend classes. Please follow any instructions provided by your department.
6. Others
(1) Even if classes are conducted because the abovementioned provisions do not apply, students who are unable to attend classes due to unavoidable circumstances stated below in their residential area or along their route to campus will be given appropriate consideration to ensure that they are not academically disadvantaged.
Please contact the academic affairs office of the department offering the course or your home department.
If a weather warning similar to those specified in "1. Cancellation of classes after issuance of weather warnings" is issued
If public transportation services other than those specified in "2. Cancellation of classes due to transportation interruptions" are suspended
If an earthquake similar to those specified in "4. Cancellation of classes due to earthquake" occurs
(2) When a weather warning, public transportation disruption, or evacuation order, etc. is expected, or when emergency class cancellations are required, students will be notified through the UOsaka website, KOAN, and X (https://x.com/OU_emergency).
However, when a relevant weather warning has been issued, public transportation services have been suspended, or an evacuation order, etc. has been issued at the designated time, class cancellations and other measures under these Guidelines will automatically take effect without the need to wait for an individual announcement through the UOsaka website, KOAN, or X.
Any subsequent announcement by UOsaka will serve only to provide additional information on the situation and is expected to be made between 8:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.
Students should check official information from the Japan Meteorological Agency, local authorities, and public transportation operators and act accordingly.
