Future Global Leaders Camp 2026 held
From August 19 to 21, 2026, the Future Leaders Camp (FGLC) 2026 was held by the Osaka School of International Public Policy and co-hosted by Inochi FORUM of Social Solution Initiative (SSI) on the theme of “Change Your Perspective, Change the World: Three Days Engaging with Global Challenges.”
Forty-six high school students from across Japan gathered at UOsaka and engaged in lively discussions on solutions to various social challenges around the world.
This event is organized and operated by students of Flagship, an official student organization of UOsaka. The student organizers take the lead in designing and preparing the program, managing the event schedule, serving as presentation moderators, and facilitating group discussions and activities.
As in the previous year, the first day featured a special lecture on logical thinking by Professor HORI Kazunari of the Center for Education in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Following the lecture, the high school students, most of whom were meeting for the first time, were divided into eight groups. With guidance from student members of Flagship, they identified key issues, organized their discussions, and conducted research activities. Working in groups, the high school students explored ways to address social challenges such as child labor, natural disasters, health issues, and food insecurity. They shared ideas, refined their proposals, and introduced their solutions in the form of presentations.
At the interim presentations held on the second day, the participating groups received feedback and questions from the faculty members serving as judges regarding both the content and delivery of their presentations. Following the interim presentations, each group refined its ideas with guidance from the judges and student members of Flagship.
The third and final day was devoted to additional research, analysis, and preparation for the final presentations. Supported by student members of Flagship, the high school students further developed their ideas and approaches before presenting their proposed solutions in the final session.
Following the presentations, WATANABE Shiori, Gender Protection Officer of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), delivered a special lecture. The participating high school students listened attentively to her insights on refugee issues viewed through the current situation in Palestine, as well as on career development for high school students.
After the special lecture, the results of the final evaluation were announced. The group that presented its research on child labor in India's cotton-producing regions received the Gold Award, while the Silver Award was given to the group that investigated how the rapid deployment of medical personnel and supplies could help reduce disaster-related deaths among people with chronic illnesses. The event concluded with comments and feedback from the faculty members who served as judges.
Finally, Professor OTSUKI Tsunehiro, Dean of the Osaka School of International Public Policy, delivered the closing remarks, bringing FGLC 2026 to a successful conclusion after three days of lively and passionate discussions among the participating high school students.
