Professor Emeritus KAWASHIMA Yasunaru and Professor Emeritus KOMATSU Kazuhiko Awarded the 2025 Order of Culture

At the Order of Culture conferment ceremony held on November 3, 2025, Professor Emeritus Yasunaru Kawashima and Professor Emeritus Kazuhiko Komatsu of the University of Osaka were awarded the Order of Culture.

The Order of Culture is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement and development of culture, including academia and the arts.

Professor Emeritus Yasunaru Kawashima has made significant contributions to the development of cardiac surgery in Japan, including the treatment of congenital heart defects. Professor Emeritus Kazuhiko Komatsu specializes in cultural anthropology and folklore studies and has established new academic fields such as "Yokai Studies" and "Yokai Culture Theory." The long-standing achievements of both professors have been highly recognized.
