The University of Osaka Has Signed Partnership Agreement with Toyonaka City and Resona Bank, Ltd.

―Establishing a scheme to support the social implementation of UOsaka's research outcomes utilizing the corporate hometown tax donation program―

The University of Osaka, Toyonaka City, and Resona Bank, Ltd. concluded a partnership agreement on January 26, 2026, with the aim of promoting regional revitalization, including Toyonaka City, and creating new industries through innovation generated by research outcomes. This will be achieved by leveraging the strengths of all three parties through collaborative initiatives utilizing the corporate hometown tax donation program.
UOsaka has already concluded a comprehensive friendship agreement with Toyonaka City (February 27, 2007) to collaborate in various areas including education, research, the environment, industry, and community development. Furthermore, the university has also concluded an agreement with Resona Bank, Ltd. (February 4, 2025) to promote the social implementation of the university's research outcomes. This is a concrete initiative based on these agreements.

Under the scheme of the agreement, a corporate hometown tax donation program will be made from Resona Bank to Toyonaka City, where they will be utilized for industrial support projects in the city. Concurrently, Toyonaka City will provide funding to UOsaka in the form of subsidies for supporting the social implementation of research outcomes.
Through this program, the university plans to provide Grant support (up to 10 million yen per project, totaling one billion yen) to researchers aiming to commercialize their research seeds.
Through this scheme, universities, enterprises, financial institutions, and local governments will collaborate to nurture seeds of innovation and pursue their social implementation and commercialization. UOsaka aims to expand its educational and research hub in Osaka Kansai region through collaboration with universities in the prefecture and neighboring areas, while also developing a cluster hub for startups.

On the same day, a joint press conference was held at the University of Osaka Hall at Toyonaka Campus. Attendees included FUJIO Yasushi, Senior Executive Vice President of the university, MINAMI Kazutoshi, Managing Executive Officer of Resona Bank, Ltd., and OSANAI Shigeki, Mayor of Toyonaka City. They explained the significance of the collaboration and the details of the initiative, with numerous questions being raised by the press.

The press conference conveyed the strong determination of all three parties to contribute to future society through the social implementations of research outcomes of universities.
