Professor Shizuo AKIRA Reports 2026 Japan Prize Award to President Atsushi KUMANOGOH

Professor Shizuo Akira, Specially Appointed Professor at the Center for Advanced Modalities and DDS and recipient of the 2026 Japan Prize, visited President Atsushi Kumanogoh on January 23 to report on his award.

Senior Executive Vice President Yasushi Fujio also attended the meeting, praising Professor Akira for his prominent research achievements over many years that led to this award.

The conversation, held in a friendly atmosphere throughout, also touched on “Dr. Wani,” the UOsaka official mascot character that Professor Akira is fond of.

The award ceremony is held annually in April and is attended by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, the heads of the three branches of government, and relevant ministers.
This year's award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Tokyo on Tuesday, April 14.
