President Atsushi Kumanogoh offers his New Year’s Greeting

On January 20, President KUMANOGOH Atsushi offered his New Year’s Greeting at the Education and Research Council Meeting.

He began by reviewing the endeavors undertaken in 2025: initiatives to strengthen our research infrastructure, including the completion of various new buildings; the first-ever student victory at the Birdman Rally; the designation of the Machikane Crocodylidae fossil as a natural treasure; and the groundbreaking achievements of Distinguished Honorary Professor Shimon Sakaguchi, including his receipt of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

He then emphasized that the university's greatest strength lies in the highly integrated combination of basic research capabilities and the ability to generate convergent knowledge through practical expertise. He called for all faculty and staff to work together in 2026, transcending the boundaries of disciplines and fields, to earnestly reflect on, collaboratively refine, and implement measures that will enhance the quality of research and education, paving the way for development unique to the University of Osaka.
