The University of Osaka Foundation for the Future has established the "Shimon Sakaguchi Research Support Fund"

We sincerely appreciate your ongoing support of the university's fund activities. In light of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine being awarded to Distinguished Honorary Professor Shimon Sakaguchi of the University of Osaka, the University of Osaka Foundation for the Future has established the “ Shimon Sakaguchi Research Support Fund.”

The regulatory T cells discovered by Professor Sakaguchi are crucial cells that suppress immune responses, preventing excessive inflammation and autoimmune reactions. Enhancing the function of these cells is believed to suppress autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis caused by excessive immune responses. Furthermore, cancer cells sometimes evade immune attacks by utilizing regulatory T cells. In such cases, it is expected that cancer treatment could become possible by weakening the function of regulatory T cells near the tumor.

This fund will support research activities related to regulatory T cells, cultivate young researchers and send them abroad, employ researchers and research staff, and manage and operate the research center.
We sincerely appreciate your support.
