Distinguished Honorary Professor SAKAGUCHI Shimon Receives Suita City Mayor's Special Award
On October 28, 2025, Distinguished Honorary Professor Shimon Sakaguchi, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, was presented with the Suita Mayor's Special Award.
On the day, Suita City Mayor Keiji Goto presented the award. The photo session featured Suita City's mascot character, “Suitan,” and UOsaka official mascot character, “Dr. Wani,” creating a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout the event.
Mayor Goto stated, “I hear that Professor Sakaguchi's research involved considerable challenges. His perseverance in working hard without giving up led to outstanding achievements like winning the Nobel Prize of this time, which holds profound significance for today's young students and researchers.” Distinguished Honorary Professor Shimon Sakaguchi responded, “I hope to convey to the children of Suita City, who benefit from initiatives like the ‘Fumiko Yonezawa Children's Science Award’ endorsing children's interest in science, the importance of pursuing what sparks their curiosity."
