Professor SAKAGUCHI Shimon was awarded the title of Distinguished Honorary Professor

The title of Distinguished Honorary Professor was conferred on Professor SAKAGUCHI Shimon, Specially Appointed Professor, Immunology Frontier Research Center, the University of Osaka.

The title of Distinguished Honorary Professor of Osaka University is conferred to individuals who have made particularly outstanding contributions to academic culture and society and who have exceptional achievements in the development of education and research at the University of Osaka. Professor SAKAGUCHI is the third individual to receive this title, after Professor Yoichiro Nambu and Professor Seiji Ogawa.

Distinguished Honorary Professor SAKAGUCHI Shimon has made a series of groundbreaking discoveries that have fundamentally revolutionized the foundations of immunology, including the discovery of regulatory T cells, the subject of research recognized by the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. In addition, he has made significant contributions to unraveling the molecular mechanisms by which regulatory T cells control the activity of inflammatory T cells. His unparalleled achievements continue to have a tremendous impact on the academic community worldwide.
