New Nickname for the University of Osaka Tokyo Office

The University of Osaka Tokyo Office solicited ideas from the public for a new nickname, aiming to be widely cherished by the university's graduates and alumni across generations and schools/graduate schools. Out of 69 suggestions submitted, the following nickname was selected:

HANDAI Tokyo Square
・Thoughts Behind the Nickname
　　After all, “The University of Osaka” should simply be called “Handaï”. I also wanted the new nickname to carry the meaning of a “square” where all kinds of people, things, and events converge.

Satoshi Matsumura (1986 graduate of the Department of Human Sciences, School of Human Sciences), who submitted the nickname, expressed congratulations on the relocation of the University of Osaka Tokyo Office for further development amidst the momentum of Osaka enlivening. As an alumnus, he voiced high expectations that “HANDAI Tokyo Square” will strengthen UOsaka’s presence and become a satellite office for the future.

Roles and functions of the University of Osaka Tokyo Office HANDAI Tokyo Square
1. A base for activities in the Tokyo metropolitan area for current students, faculty, and staff
It serves as a hub for disseminating information and conducting activities in the Tokyo metropolitan area, aiming for dramatic development in research and education. Faculty, staff, current students, and alumni can use it for classes, lectures, meetings, and more.

2. A hub for reactivating the alumni network
The university has an alumni network of approximately 200,000 members. It serves as a hub to strengthen ties between the university and its alumni, invigorating the alumni network while enhancing collaboration with alumni associations in each department.

3. A base for expanding the circle of shared vision with supporters of UOsaka
It serves as a base for activities to foster momentum toward the university’s 100th anniversary in 2031 and expand the circle of shared vision with our supporters. The Development Office is located within the University of Osaka Tokyo Office.
