Former President Shojiro Nishio Appointed as 9th Director of the International Institute for Advanced Studies

On October 1, former president Shojiro Nishio assumed the position of the 9th Director of the International Institute for Advanced Studies. His office term runs from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027.

The International Institute for Advanced Study (IIAS) is a core academic research institute in Keihanna Science City, operating under the principle of serving as “a place where outstanding researchers from across nations and research disciplines converge to interact and debate in a free, open atmosphere.” It promotes creative basic research through collaboration with industry, academia, government, and community.

Upon taking office as the director, former president Nishio stated:
"I am fully aware of the weight of responsibility that comes with taking up the directorship at the International Institute for Advanced Studies, founded in 1984. In the current era where the future is often unpredictable, we will strive to create new values based on insights cultivated through collaborative activities with diverse researchers.
