Opening Ceremony for the 64th Seven Universities Meet Held

On July 12, 2025, the opening ceremony for the 64th Seven Universities Meet was held at Hokkaido University. From UOsaka, President KUMANOGOH Atsushi, Senior Executive Vice President TANAKA Toshihiro, and UOsaka Sports Union Chairman KANAI Yuki were in attendance to pray for a successful performance of athletes.

At the opening ceremony, Hokkaido University, last year’s champion, returned the championship banner and trophy, after which the president of Hokkaido University, serving as the tournament chairman, and the student representative from the university, serving as the executive committee chairman, gave speeches, and the athletes took an oath.

In the subsequent part, students at Hokkaido University performed on the pipe organ, the university’s Cheerleading Team performed for attendees, and the cheer group sent their encouragement.

At the reception following the opening ceremony, the presidents and Sports Union chairmen from each university spoke about their aspirations for the Seven Universities Meet, where even in the humorous and friendly atmosphere, there was a sense of fighting spirit, suggesting a heated competition.

In addition, students at Hokkaido University put on a performance to the delight of the attendees.

While the portion of the competitions that took place over the winter have already finished, 31 different events are yet to come, with this opening ceremony marking the real start of the Meet.

Recently, UOsaka placed first in the men’s lacrosse competition and is currently in 6th place in the total point standings. We are looking forward to seeing it perk up.

We hope that students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents will cheer on UOsaka’s athletes as they vie for the first championship for the University of Osaka in 14 years.
