AKAMATSU Ken, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, visits UOsaka
On July 2, AKAMATSU Ken, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, along with other officials, visited the University of Osaka to see the Institute of Laser Engineering and the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology (QIQB).
He first visited the Institute of Laser Engineering. Following the overview of the institute given by the director, Ryosuke Kodama, he inspected the large-scale power laser facilities, which are used for a wide range of research fields, such as laser nuclear fusion.

After the tour, there was a lively exchange of opinions with faculty members of the Institute of Laser Engineering regarding the prospects of power lasers leveraging Japan's strengths.

The Parliamentary Vice-Minister Akamatsu then visited QIQB. First, the director, Masahiro Kitagawa, provided a detailed overview of the current initiatives at QIQB, followed by a presentation of ongoing research projects by Deputy Director Keisuke Fujii with the introduction to the forefront of quantum computer research.
Discussion
Subsequently, they engaged in an active discussion about the significant future possibilities of quantum science. During the subsequent on-site tour of experimental facilities for quantum networks, quantum optics, and cold atom systems, Deputy Director Yamamoto delivered detailed explanations of the research being conducted. In addition, they toured superconducting quantum computers, where Deputy Director Negoro elaborated on the mechanisms and features of quantum computers.
