🔴Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai ×The University of Osaka!🔵Two Executive Vice Presidents invited to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Brass performance, Netherlands Pavilion tour & reception
On June 20, the Netherlands’ Rotterdam Philharmonic Brass performance, Netherlands Pavilion tour, and reception were held at the Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. As this year marks the 425th year since the establishment of friendly relationships between Japan and the Netherlands, several events commemorating this anniversary are being held during this Expo period. The University of Osaka has an academic exchange agreement with the University of Groningen, and as the source of Dutch studies, the two Executive Directors were invited to attend this event: Yoichi Miyamoto (in charge of Global Education), and Keiko Takemura (in charge of Expo 2025 and Public Relations).

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Brass is a brass ensemble comprising 13 top-tier Dutch musicians. The performance captivated the audience with a wide range of music, from classical masterpieces to bold contemporary sounds. The opening song was “Sakura Sakura,” which was also played again at the end in a different arrangement, allowing the audience to enjoy the ingenuity of the arrangement. Additionally, the concert featured “Somebody Stole My Gal,” the familiar theme song of the Yoshimoto sitcom comedy troupe, capturing the hearts of the Osaka audience.

After the performance, we moved to the Netherlands Pavilion, where we enjoyed the exhibition with a guide by the director himself. At the dinner reception that followed, the guests enjoyed Dutch beer and traditional cuisine while chatting with other guests, further deepening the exchange between Japan and the Netherlands. They also reaffirmed the importance of continuing this exchange, which has been ongoing for many years in various fields.
