Title of the University of Osaka Global Alumni Fellow awarded to Professor Dean Deng

On May 21, 2025, the title-awarding ceremony for the University of Osaka Global Alumni Fellow took place at the university, where Professor Dean Deng of Chongqing University (China) received the title from Executive Vice President HAYASHI Mikako, in charge of Global Engagement.

The title of Global Alumni Fellow is conferred on UOsaka alumni who are active overseas in building an international network.

After completing his doctoral program at the Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Osaka, Professor Deng worked as a JSPS Research Fellow and international collaborative researcher at the Joining and Welding Research Institute. He is currently conducting research on welding mechanics at Chongqing University and is active in promoting joint research and student exchanges between Chongqing University and our university by sending international collaborative researchers and international students.

At the ceremony, Executive Vice President Hayashi explained the significance of the title and asked for Professor Deng's continued support in serving as a bridge for education and research between UOsaka and China, as well as enhancing the network between UOsaka alumni, education and research institutions, and companies that are active in China.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Professor Deng’s contact person, Professor Ninshu Ma of the Joining and Welding Research Institute; Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Huang Wenji of the same Institute; and Professor Emeritus MURAKAWA Hidekazu. They engaged in a lively discussion on a wide range of topics, such as Professor Deng’s research, memories of his student days, and the prospects of the field of joining and welding.
