The University of Osaka will support international students and researchers at U.S. universities to continue their studies and research — The Graduate School of Medicine is establishing a program to welcome approximately 100 researchers with more than 600 million yen of its financial resources —

Due to sudden policy changes by the U.S. government, such as the suspension of international student admissions, many international students and researchers are finding it difficult to continue their studies and research activities in universities and colleges.

Guided by our vision of “Live Locally, Grow Globally” and our strong commitment to DE&I, the University of Osaka is currently considering specific support measures to temporarily host those affected by providing an environment where they can continue their studies and research without interruption.

The support under consideration is as follows:

  • Guarantee of status as an international student or researcher at the University of Osaka (admission)
  • Support for necessary travel procedures
  • Tuition exemption (for students only)
  • Other necessary support for continuing studies and research

We will provide support to the extent possible, based on the feedback from U.S. university-related personnel, as well as international students and researchers facing difficulties, and while keeping a close eye on further developments in U.S. government policy.

Our measures will be tailored to individual circumstances, taking into account the actual study and research situations of international students and researchers affiliated with U.S. universities.

*Details of the support measures will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

Initiatives by the Graduate School of Medicine

In addition to the university-wide support efforts, the Graduate School of Medicine is independently preparing the following support for researchers finding it difficult to remain in the United States, regardless of their nationality.

  • Preparing approximately 600 million to 1 billion yen in self-funded resources and deciding to establish a program to welcome up to 100 doctoral researchers
  • Planning to open an international recruitment procedure for doctoral researchers
