Send-off party held for students participating in the 64th Seven Universities Meet
The opening of this year's Seven Universities Meet, known as the “Nanadai-Sen,” is drawing near.
The Seven Universities Meet is an athletics competition between seven national universities: Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, the University of Tokyo, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, the University of Osaka, and Kyushu University. Over 8,000 students participate in this meet each year, making it the largest student-led athletics meet in Japan.
This year, Hokkaido University will be hosting the meet; therefore each team will head to Hokkaido for the competitions.
On May 21, a send-off party was held at La Foret, a cafeteria on the Toyonaka Campus, for students participating in the 64th Seven Universities Meet.
The send-off party was held in the presence of President KUMANOGOH Atsushi, Senior Executive Vice President (Student Support) TANAKA Toshihiro, Chairman KAWAHARA Yukio (Campus Life Committee), and representatives from teams participating in the meet.

Students compete in over 40 different competitions at the meet, and each university receives points for their athletes’ performances.
Although a portion of the winter competitions have already been held prior to the opening ceremony in July, some 30 summer events are set to be held from June to September.
Much as we tried, the University of Osaka finished 6th in the standings last year; however, the university hopes to finish in 1st place this year.
Let’s cheer on our athletes as they strive to do their best!
