The 10th Machikaneyama Conference (International Public Policy Conference) held
On March 23 and 24, 2025, the 10th Machikaneyama Conference (International Public Policy Conference) was held, hosted by the Osaka School of International Public Policy of the University of Osaka and co-hosted by Inochi Forum and the university’s Social Solution Initiative. This conference is run by members of Flagship, an organization officially accredited by the University of Osaka.
The theme of this conference was “Analysis of International Issues and their Solutions for the Realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 with an Eye toward the Society Thereafter,” and 41 high school students made their research presentations in the fields of health, development, environment, local community, and public administration. On the first day, five schools were divided into four sectional groups, and presentations were delivered by five schools each, followed by feedback from the jury professors. During the general session on the second day, four research presentations were made by the winners of the first day’s screening, with teachers asking questions and offering comments. After that, Mr. Nishiwaki from Suntory Holdings Ltd. gave a lecture on their efforts towards the SDGs related to the company’s sustainable management.
In the announcement of final results, the Grand Prize went to the research presentation titled “Local-community-based Evacuation Center Management Training for Solving Issues Faced by LBGTQ+ People at Evacuation Centers,” and the Excellence Prize went to the research presentation titled “Towards a Future without Postpartum Depression- a message from Wakayama Prefecture to the whole of Japan.” Subsequently, Professor Matsushige offered his commentaries on the presentations, followed by a concluding remark by Professor Nakajima, Dean of the Osaka School of International Public Policy.
