Title of the University of Osaka Global Alumni Fellow awarded to Professor TORII Ryo

On February 18, 2025, the title-awarding ceremony for The University of Osaka Global Alumni Fellow took place at the university, where Professor TORII Ryo of University College London (UK) received the title from Executive Vice President FUKASE Koichi, in charge of Global Engagement.

The title of Global Alumni Fellow is conferred to UOsaka alumni who are active overseas in order to build an international network.

A graduate of the School of Engineering Science at The University of Osaka, Professor Torii is currently conducting research mainly in biomechanics at University College London (UCL). UCL is also UOsaka’s Global Knowledge Partner, and Professor Torii, as a faculty member at UCL, has strived for various endeavors, such as promoting collaborative research and accepting UOsaka students who wish to study abroad.

At the ceremony, Executive Vice President Fukase explained the significance of the title and asked for Professor Torii’s continued support in serving as a bridge for education and research between Japan and the UK, as well as enhancing the network of UOsaka alumni who are active in the UK.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Professor WADA Shigeo, Dean of Graduate School of Engineering Science (a contact person for the ceremony), Professor DEGUCHI Shinji (Graduate School of Engineering Science), and Professor Emeritus SUGIMOTO Nobumasa. Professor Torii had a lively discussion with the attendees about various topics, including collaborative research being conducted between Professor Torii and the Graduate School of Engineering Science, the current student acceptance situation at UCL, and the importance of students’ study abroad experience. Professor Torii also showed his enthusiasm for promoting student exchange between UOsaka and UCL.
