Collaboration between OU Ecosystem and Resona Bank Network for Creating New Values and Resolving Social Issues—OU and Resona Bank Signed Collaboration Agreement

On February 4, 2025, Osaka University and Resona Bank signed a collaboration agreement with the goal of promoting the social implementation of the university’s research achievements through mutual collaboration.

Osaka University, which boasts world-class research capabilities and a strong foundation for innovation creation, and Resona Bank, which possesses a vast network, will combine each other’s strengths to form collaborative research projects aimed at solving social issues through new value creation and to develop and support startups from Osaka University in order to realize the creation of a better future society and the development of local communities.

As a specific collaborative project, the tentatively-called “Osaka University Resona Co-Creation HUB” will be established to perform matchmaking for Resona Bank clients and realize social implementation of the university’s research seeds, taking advantage of the economic potential of Osaka and the Kansai region as well as the benefits of the concentration of universities and industries. This is a unique initiative in which Resona Bank employees will station at Osaka University to systematically form a business matchmaking platform together. In addition to the existing initiatives such as startup support and venture debt, a total of approximately 1 billion yen will be subsidized as financial support under a new financial support framework to facilitate the emergence and growth of startups that utilize the university’s cutting-edge technologies.

On the same day, a joint press conference was held at Osaka University Nakanoshima Center. OU President NISHIO Shojiro and Resona Bank CEO IWANAGA Shoichi explained the details and significance of the collaboration, while reporters asked numerous questions.

The press conference conveyed enthusiastic commitment to contribute to the future society by means of social implementation of the university’s research achievements.
