OU receives an S, the Highest Rating in the post-project evaluation for the JSP project “Initiative for Realizing Diversity in the Research Environment (National Network Core Institute (Group))”

On January 27, 2025, the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) announced the results of the post-evaluation of the “Initiative for Realizing Diversity in the Research Environment (National Network Core Institute (Group)),” a project subsidized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for human resource development in science and technology, and Osaka University received the highest rating of S.

Osaka University was the only university in Japan to be selected for this project in fiscal year 2008, and as the leading organization, together with Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and IBM Japan, our collaborating organizations, Osaka University has since establish a “National Diversity Network” to connect institutions that are working to improve the research environment for female researchers and enhance their research capabilities. The Network has been conducting survey on domestic and international trends in efforts to promote diversity, as well as disseminating and deploying its experience and knowledge across Japan.

The “National Diversity Network Organization,” a reality network comprising eight regional blocks, has 185 participating organizations, far exceeding the original target. The project was highly evaluated especially for having conducted the nation's first large-scale questionnaire survey with the “National Diversity Network Platform,” a virtual network (website), disseminated the results of the survey and its analysis, and shared exemplary practices of each participating institution.

Osaka university will continue and develop this network after the project period, and work to further promote DE&I.
