Special Lecture by Dr. SHIRAHASE Sawako (Senior Vice-Rector, United Nations University) held

Osaka University invited Dr. SHIRAHASE Sawako, Senior Vice-Rector of United Nations University to speak at the special lecture entitled “Gender Equality in the World – Gender Inequality in University Education” for Osaka University students on December 24, 2024.

This lecture was held as part of the class of the Graduate School of Human Sciences “Gender and Education” (faculty member in charge: Professor KIMURA Ryoko, Graduate School of Human Sciences). In addition to students of the class, many students attended the lecture regardless of the school and grade level.

After explaining the global situation and Japan’s status in terms of gender equality in an easy-to-understand manner using various statistical data, Dr. Shirahase spoke about the role of universities and her expectations for students.

The question-and-answer session was so lively that some students spoke to Dr. Shirahase even after the lecture.
