SATO Yuriko wins 19th L'Oreal UNESCO Female Scientist Japan Encouragement Award!

SATO Yuriko (3rd year doctoral student at the Graduate School of Engineering) won the 19th (2024) L'Oreal UNESCO Female Scientist Japan Encouragement Award.


Research Topic:

Elucidation of metal processing by arc plasma as the heat source based on magnetohydrodynamics and creation of next-generation metal processing

Reason for Award:

Ms. Sato conducted research for scientific understanding of welding techniques and introducing cotrol techniques based on observations to the field of welding which had depended on the skill of experienced welding operators.



In tune with the philosophy of the joint project for supporting female scientists L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science, which is developed on a global scale by the Fondation L'Oréal and UNESCO, NIHON L'ORÉAL K.K. established the “L'Oreal UNESCO Female Scientist Japan Encouragement Award” in 2005 under the cooperation of the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO.

This award is granted to 4 women under the age of forty who are enrolled in or plan to go on to a doctoral program in the fields of materials science and life science in Japan. Two people from each field are selected each year.
