Associate Professor NEGORO Makoto of QIQB receives MEXT Minister’s Award of the 2024 Award for Academic Startups

On August 22, 2024, the ceremony for the 2024 Award for Academic Startups was held at Tokyo Big Sight and Associate Professor NEGORO Makoto (Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology (QIQB)) and QuEL, Inc., a startup from QIQB, received the MEXT Minister’s Award.

Reason for the Award

QuEL, Inc. is expected to contribute to accelerating the R&D of quantum computer technology and solving issues facing humanity by providing high-performance products as a startup that develops controllers and middleware for quantum computers.

It was highly evaluated that the company’s qubit controller that provides scalable solutions that increase the number of qubits in quantum hardware can contribute to the development of quantum computers and have a potential to support future technological innovation.

What is the Award for Academic Startups?
The Award for Academic Startups honors promising, excellent university startups, especially the ones based on research outcomes at universities and other institutions, and recognizes universities and companies that support the growth of such startups. This award aims to promote the establishment of startups that make use of R&D outcomes at universities and other entities, assist startups to make challenging efforts, and encourage universities and companies to support university startups.
