2 Doctoral Students from OU selected as the first participants in the UNESCO Training Program

MIYAMURA Yuki (Kyosei Sciences, Graduate School of Human Sciences) and YOSHIDA Natsuki (Department of Health and Sport Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine) were selected as the first participants in the UNESCO Training Program (internship program), which was newly established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Ms. Miyamura began her training at the UNESCO South Asia Regional Office in New Delhi in June of this year and will conclude her 6-month internship in December. Ms. Yoshida will begin her training at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from September following the conclusion of the Olympic Games, and will conclude her year-long internship at the end of next August.

The UNESCO Training Program was started in AY2024 based on an agreement between MEXT (UNESCO Japanese Commission) and UNESCO Headquarters.

This program provides outstanding Japanese students with opportunities to undergo long-term training (generally 6~12 months) at UNESCO Headquarters or one of their Regional Offices in order to promote the understanding of UNESCO’s activity in Japan, develop international citizens like international organization staff, and revitalize communities through UNESCO’s activity.

A UNESCO Chair is a projet and a team at a university, a higher education, or research institution that partners with UNESCO in order to address various social challenges. Recruiting for this program takes place at universities in Japan where UNESCO Chairs are located, with the UNESCO Chair in Global Health & Education serving as point of contact at Osaka University.

Recruiting for AY2025 will begin this fall. All graduate students are eligible to apply. For more details, please contact unesco.chair@hus.osaka-u.ac.jp.
