Lecture in memory of OGATA Koan by artist MORIMURA Yasumasa is now available for viewing
Each year, a memorial service for late-Edo period doctor and Dutch scholar Ogata Koan is held at Tekijuku, around the date of OGATA Koan's death on June 10. Koan opened Tekijuku during the Edo period to practice education and medicine and Tekijuku is said to be a spiritual origin of Osaka University.
On the day of memorial service, a memorial lecture was held to introduce the latest research results at Osaka University at Tekijuku (a national important cultural property).
On Monday, June 10, Mr. MORIMURA Yasumasa, an artist and Specially Appointed Professor at Osaka University, delivered a lecture entitled “Thinking About Tekijuku in the Modern Age – the Background of my Work ‘The Tekijuku Gathering.’” He spoke about the production process of his work, in which he portrays Koan and OU students portray Koan’s students. The work is hung on the wall of in the atrium of the Nakanoshima Center.
