Osaka University Homecoming Day 2024 held

On Friday, May 3, 2024, Osaka University Homecoming Day 2024 was held on the Toyonaka Campus.

Held on the same day as the Icho Festival for the first time in 5 years, Homecoming Day saw over 300 members of the OU Family visit campus to join in the festivities under sunny skies.

In the lecture session at the Lecture Hall of Osaka University Hall, following news and updates from President NISHIO Shojiro, lectures were delivered by the following OU faculty members:

  • DOME Takuo (Professor, Graduate School of Economics/Executive Assistant to the President) - "Overcoming Adversity in the Modern Era - Aiming to Become a Society that Treasures Life"
  • OKADA Mariko (Professor, Institute of Protein Research) - "Weaving Lives Together by Data Transfer Through the OU Network"
  • FUJII Keisuke (Professor, Graduate School of Engineering Science/Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology) - "The Forefront of Quantum Computing R&D Targeting Global Expansion from Osaka -- Progress in Quantum Computing"

During a Q&A session after each presentation, the speakers were peppered with questions from the audience.

The social gathering held at cafeteria Kasane (in the Osaka University Student and Service Union) began with a toast by OUCHI Hajime (chairman of the Sakyuakai, the alumni association for the School of Foreign Studies), and MC for the event, Ms. SEKI Junko (Announcer, Kansai Television Co. Ltd. and OU alumna) interviewed several participants, creating a relaxed atmosphere.

Although some joined Homecoming Day for the first time, the participants enjoyed even talking with those they met for the first time as fellow alumni, strengthening the bonds they share as OU family members.

Finally, in his closing remarks, Executive Vice President KANEDA Yasufumi introduced Osaka University LINKS, a new event in Tokyo to enhance collaboration among alumni and university-related corporations, as well as the university’s policy for dissemination of information about events and PR activity at the university.

We received positive feedback from participants, such as “I was moved to see how Osaka University has influenced on the world” and “I am excited about the future direction and results of research at OU.”
