Osaka University Cheerleading Party Performance Festival held

With the aim of creating a new venue for interaction between university members and local residents, the Osaka University Cheerleading Party, which is made up of leaders, a brass band, and cheerleaders, held its Performance Festival on the Toyonaka Campus on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

This festival was made possible through crowdfunding, marking the first attempt of its kind as a participating cheerleading party of the Seven Universities Meet.

More than 80% of the OU’s Cheerleading Party members are women. During their performance, the leaders appeared in new outfits in line with trends in diversity, which were a complete departure from the traditional leader uniforms called gakuran, a school uniform for boys.

A female flagbearer, a rarity in Japan, carried the cheerleading party flag, and the cheerleaders debuted their new uniform.

Cheerleading squads from other member schools of the Seven Universities Meet also joined in the event, uniting performers and the audience and making for an exciting day.
