iLDi Open Symposium held

The Institute for Datability Science Initiative for Life Design Innovation (iLDi) held an open symposium “Striving to Improve Wellbeing” on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Unlike the last year’s in-person symposium with a virtual audience, this year, the symposium was held in person (on-site only) at Knowledge Capital Congrès Convention Center (Grand Front Osaka) but attracted as many as 125 participants.

The symposium started with an interactive session consisting of poster presentations and demonstrations by project, where participants interacted with each other. The session was followed by the opening speech by President NISHIO Shojiro and the guest speech by SHIOMI Mizue (Director-General Research Promotion Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)).

Following the introduction to the iLDi activity, the center’s Director YAGI Yasushi mentioned 4 projects, explaining about 20 items, whose practical applications were intended.

  1. The Wellness Project (providing health management services for the elderly)
  2. The Lifestyle Project (creating a parenting-friendly society)
  3. The Edutainment Project (supporting university students’ learning and mental health)
  4. The Project to Promote Socially Acceptable Data Usage and Technology (enhancing the function of a data distribution infrastructure Personal Life Repositories (PLR) in which physicians can obtain personal health record data, sharing human medical and health information, improving social acceptability of personal data utilization, and preparing dataset preparation guidelines)

Then, Wakayama University Emeritus Professor TAKI Hirokazu and Nagoya University Hospital Professor MIZUNO Masaaki made general comments, speaking about iLDi’s achievements and their expectations for the future.

After the closing remarks by Executive Vice President ONOYE Takao (iLDi Deputy Executive Director), the symposium finished with a great success.

On this academic year, which marks the first year of phase 2 of the MEXT’s Research Hub Support Project for the Realization of Society 5.0, this symposium offered a valuable opportunity to share the activities of iLDi making efforts for research utilization.
