OU-led project wins Prime Minister’s Award at the 6th Japan Open Innovation Prize

The Osaka University-led project “Creation of Innovative Oxidation Reaction Activation Control Technology Using Safe Oxidants” won the Prime Minister’s Award at the 6th Japan Open Innovation Prize (JOIP) sponsored by the Cabinet Office.

JOIP aims to spread open innovation and accelerate innovation in science and technology in Japan by recognizing leading and unique efforts that will serve as role models for others and disseminating information about these efforts.

After elucidating the mechanisms of MA-T®, a disinfectant and deodorizer, OU developed the MA-T System®, an innovative oxidation control technology, which is expected to be used in various applications.

In cooperation with Osaka University’s Institute for Open Innovation, and Japan MA-T Industrial Association (led by Earth Corporation), researchers involved in this area of study forms the Oxidation Control Co-Creation Consortium to promote social applications of MA-T technology to promote social applications of MA-T technology.

Their efforts to promote open innovation and industry-academia collaboration, such as the development of the disinfectant and deodorizer, medicines, biomethane liquefaction technology, and new materials, were highly evaluated as efforts to greatly contribute to the achievement of SDGs.

The fundamental research related to this series of innovative endeavors was promoted with support from the following rojects:

・Adaptable and Seamless Technology transfer Program through target-driven R&D (A-STEP) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)
Programs on Open Innovation Platform with Enterprises, Research Institute and Academia (OPERA)
