Nanophoton Corporation, an Osaka University start-up, joins the Bruker group through M&A

Osaka University Venture Capital Fund 1 (OUVC Fund 1), an unlimited liability partner of Osaka University Venture Capital Co., Ltd. (OUVC), sold all shares of Nanophoton Corporation owned by the Fund to Bruker Corporation Japan.

Nanophoton Corporation is an Osaka University start-up company founded by Professor KAWATA Satoshi in 2003. Using its world-class nanotechnology and photonics technology, Nanophoton has played an important role in the market for high-end laser beam Raman microscopes while expanding its business into markets in Japan and abroad.

In 2016, OUVC invested money to support Nanophoton’s endeavor to strengthen its global marketing system and to expand its business in the fields of life sciences and semiconductors.

Bruker Japan is the Japanese subsidiary of Bruker Corporation (based in Billerica, Massachusetts, USA), a world-class scientific and analytical instrument manufacturer. Its revenue is 370 billion JPY and its market capitalization is 1.4 trillion JPY.

Asked the intention of selling Nanophoton shares to Bruker Corporation, Nanophoton thought that being affiliated with the Bruker Group would be beneficial for Nanophoton in developing its business, which lead to the sale.
