Osaka University Homecoming Day 2023 held

For the first time in 4 years, Osaka University held Homecoming Day 2023 on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Facilitated by Kansai Telecasting Corporation announcer SEKI Junko (1988 graduate of the School of Human Sciences), the university welcomed alumni, current students, faculty members, and many more to campus for the lecture session and social gathering.

In the lecture session at the Lecture Hall of Osaka University Hall, following the opening remarks by OU Federation of Alumni Association Chairman KISHIMOTO Tadamitsu, President NISHIO Shojiro shared the current news and updates with participants.

Alumni lectures:

Three OU faculty members, all of whom are both alumni and deans of schools/graduate schools at OU, delivered speeches, introducing approaches at their schools.

  • "Medical Research at OU and its Clinical Applications," Professor KUMANOGOH Atsushi (Dean, Graduate School of Medicine; 1997 graduate of the Graduate School of Medicine)
  • The Road Ahead for OU Global Campus -- From Minoh to the World," Professor TAKEMURA Keiko (Dean, School of Foreign Studies; 1992 graduate of the Graduate School of Foreign Studies, Osaka University of Foreign Studies (now Osaka University School/Graduate School of Foreign Studies))
  • "Research Promotion and Human Resource Development through Osaka University-led Industry-University Co-Creation," Professor KUWABATA Susumu (Dean, Graduate School of Engineering; 1991 graduate of the Graduate School of Engineering)

These lectures were received well, with some mentioning that the explanation was easy to understand and quite interesting.

The social gathering held at Kasane, the cafeteria in the Osaka University Student and Service Union, started with a toast by TOYODA Masato, chairman of the Osaka University Engineering Society (1969 graduate of the Graduate School of Engineering) and Ms. Seki interviewed several participants to the gathering. Attendees interacted with others across differences in generation and school, enjoying the social gathering.
