MEXT Official visits the Suita Campus

Director-General IKEDA Takakuni of the Higher Education Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), visited Osaka University’s Suita Campus on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

First, Mr. Ikeda visited the university facilities.

At the meeting after the tour, Mr. Ikeda learned about Osaka University’s notable accomplishments in research capability enhancement and efforts in social change and education reform and then discussed with OU President NISHIO Shojiro, Executive Vice Presidents KANEDA Yasufumi, TANAKA Toshihiro, ONOYE Takao, TANAKA Manabu, and INOUE Keiji.

Mr. Ikeda toured the following research facilities:

  • Joint Research Chair “Consortium for Future Innovation by Cultured Meat” at the Graduate School of Engineering, which explores practical applications of 3D bioprinting approaches to cultured meat production
  • Osaka University Shimadzu Omics Innovation Research Laboratories, places for industry-university co-creation and developing highly skilled talent
  • Osaka University Research Center on Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues (ELSI), which promotes comprehensive, interdisciplinary research and practical applications concerning ethical, legal, and social issues facing new science and technology
  • Research groups in the Techno Alliance Building, a hub for industry-university-government collaboration: Luxna Biotech Co., Ltd. (an OU venture), StemRIM Institute of Regeneration-Inducing Medicine
  • Immunology Frontier Research Center, a world-class research hub that strives to further explore fundamental research in immunology and promote the implementation of cutting-edge research results in society
