OU Selected for the 2023 MEXT Joint Usage/Research Project “Creation of Hub for Interdisciplinary Research Areas Program”
Osaka University’s project “Creating Platforms for Developing Collaborative Radioisotope Research in Interdisciplinary Fields” led by the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), was selected for the 2023 MEXT Joint Usage/Research Project “Creation of Hub for Interdisciplinary Research Areas Program.”
The following research institutes are also involved in this project.
- Osaka University Institute for Radiation Sciences
- RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science (RNC)
- Tohoku University Cyclotron and Radioisotope Center
- Research Center for Electron-Photon Science (ELPH), Tohoku University
- Institute for Quantum Medical Science, National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST)
- Takasaki Institute for Advanced Quantum Science, National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST)
This OU project aims to clarify researchers’ needs in a wide area ranging from basic research in physics, chemistry, and biology to applied research in engineering, agriculture, pharmaceutical sciences, and medicine and create research support systems to significantly develop advanced and interdisciplinary research using radioisotopes for research through steady provision of radioisotopes for basic R&D and technical support for safe handling of these isotopes.
Joint Usage/Research Project “Creation of Hub for Interdisciplinary Research Areas Program”
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) issued call for proposals for the 2023 MEXT Joint Usage/Research Project “Creation of Hub for Interdisciplinary Research Areas Program,” selecting 8 research projects.
Specifically, this project aims to realize a plan for creating new systems (hubs) by which institutes that use university joint-use facilities and joint use/research centers at national, public, and private universities can collaborate with research institutes and researcher communities different from conventional ones and developing into new fields based on the said plan, nurturing next-generation human resources, and creating new collaboration with industry.
