TSUTSUMI Yumi wins 18th "L'Oreal UNESCO Female Scientist Japan Encouragement Award"

TSUTSUMI Yumi (4th year, Department of Systematic Anatomy and Neurobiology, Graduate School of Dentistry, Osaka University) won the 18th (2023) “L'Oreal UNESCO Female Scientist Japan Encouragement Award.”


Research topic: Elucidation of the neural mechanisms of sensation in masticatory muscles

Reason for award: Her research is expected to reveal why chewing food makes people feel happy from an emotional perspective.



In tune with the philosophy of the joint project for supporting female scientists L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science, which is developed on a global scale by the Fondation L'Oréal and UNESCO, NIHON L'ORÉAL K.K. established the “L'Oreal UNESCO Female Scientist Japan Encouragement Award” in 2005 under the cooperation of the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO.

This award is granted to 4 women under the age of forty who are enrolled in or plan to go on to a doctoral program in the fields of materials science and life science in Japan. Two people from each field are selected each year.
