Joining and Welding Research Institute receives 2023 Foreign Minister Commendation
Osaka University's Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI) received the 2023 Foreign Minister Commendation for its contributions to the development of highly-skilled welders in Vietnam and the improvement of their research capabilities at the Iikura Guest House of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 22, 2023. This commendation is presented annually to individuals and groups who have contributed to overseas activities.
At the award ceremony, Executive Vice President TANAKA Manabu received the commendation directly from Minister of Foreign Affairs HAYASHI Yoshimasa.
This award will encourage OU to keep on supporting the development of Vietnam as well as the promotion of friendship and goodwill between Japan and Vietnam under the initiative of JWRI HUST-OU, which was established in January 2023 at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Vietnam.
Reasons for Commendation
JWRI has devoted to Vietnam’s development in terms of human resource development for welding in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of HUST since 2013 by accepting students and early-career researchers from HUST in order to enhance welding skills and solve the shortage of welding technology managers in Vietnam.
In 2016, JWR started to promote research and exchange activity and in 2018, it established the Vietnam Welding Research Club to strengthen network among related parties by holding regular seminars towards the collaboration between HUST and Japanese companies.
In the same year, JWRI started joint research with private companies to enhance welding skills in Vietnam, and in 2023, it established the JWRI HUST-OU in cooperation with HUST.
