OU will foster young talent in informatics by increasing student quotas from 2025

On July 21, 2023, OU was selected for the project “Functional Enhancement of Universities and National Institutes of Technology Initiative 2023 (2. Support for Securing Highly-skilled IT Professionals; sponsored by the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education (NIAD-QE)).

In response to this, OU has decided to increase the number of student quotas.

By employing the strengths of its outstanding researchers, OU will offer high-level education in mathematical informatics to students based on consistent learning curricula from the undergraduate to graduate school.

In order to develop informatics personnel with basic knowledge and practical abilities in artificial intelligence, big data, networks, security, robotics, quantum computing, and algorithms, OU will seek permission from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for increasing admission quotas.

Specifically,

  • Some 60 for the Schools of Engineering and Engineering Sciences from AY 2025
  • Some 45 for the Graduate Schools of Engineering Sciences and Information Science and Technology from AY 2029.

The foregoing initiative provides an expeditious and continuous supply of funding to motivated universities and national institutes of technology through a newly created fund so that they can launch strengthening growing fields with foreseeability. This is expected to further promote the development of personnel specializing in green and digital transitions throughout the country.

In addition, Osaka University has established the Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Smart Higher Education Programs, in which participants from all fields experience practical learning in mathematics, data science, and AI using real world data.
