Episode 1 of "Handai Radio – Society-University Co-Creation at Kaitokudo for the 21st Century" to be broadcast on April 30
Previously, Minoh FM (81.6 MHz) radio station broadcast a monthly show featuring activity at Osaka University on the “Machi no Radio,” but from this academic year, it will start a new program featuring Osaka University called "Handai Radio – Society-University Co-Creation at Kaitokudo for the 21st Century."
Episode 1 of this new show will be broadcast from 3:00~4:00 PM on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Even outside of the Hokusetsu area in northern Osaka, this show can be enjoyed on the Minoh FM’s website. The show will be broadcast with video through their YouTube channel once it’s been uploaded, so please tune in. Future episodes, a total of 5 episodes in the 2023-24 academic year, will be broadcast from 3:00~4:00 PM on every 5th Sunday of the month.
The radio show was broadcast from the studio, but from this year, the public recording of the show will be held on Osaka University’s campuses. Episode 1 was recorded in front of the Division of Health Sciences of the Graduate School of Medicine on Osaka University’s Suita Campus.

In the recording of Episode 1, Director WATANABE Mikio and Associate Professor SAKATA Dousatsu of the Graduate School of Medicine’s Twin Research Center spoke about their upcoming crowdfunding campaign (scheduled from May 10 ~ June 30, 2023) for a continuation of twin research at the university.
They talked about the significance of the research, saying, “OU is the only university that conducts twin studies and our efforts are useful for understanding diseases that affect not only twins but also all humans. Our studies will also reveal what educational methods are most effective in developing children’s talents and skills.”

Then, Specially Appointed Professor HAGIHARA Keisuke of the Advanced Integrative Medicine Joint Research Chair of the Graduate School of Medicine, who is planning to launch a crowdfunding campaign “Overcome the COVID-19 Pandemic by Visualizing Resilience” in June and July.
He called for the cooperation in this campaign: “After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the importance of resilience has drawn attention. Resilience can help people recover from trauma and protect themselves against depression and disease. Currently, we’re working to visualize resilience. We will work to improve health based on analysis of our data and share the results of our research with all of you.”

At the end of the show, the Handai Wani Café started by Kaitokudo for the 21st Century in December 2022 was introduced. This philosophical science café is not simply a one-sided format of lecture, but a platform for participants to directly discuss with lecturers.
Three episodes of Series 1 “Omoshiroi Kyotou [Funny Ivory Tower of Medical Professionals]” set in Osaka University Hospital, were a hit with listeners. For Series 2 of the show featuring urban development, recording will be conducted at the Senri Culture Center “Korabo [collaboration]” from 2:00~4:00 PM on Sunday, May 21.
